Do all small businesses really need a website?

This was a question that a Nuneaton business owner and friend recently asked me. Being a website designer, my first reaction was to say "Yes, of course", but after taking a few moments of thought I was able to think of a couple examples where a website would not be a cost-effecive solution.

The first example is a small convenience store or the local corner shop. These types of businesses probably do not need to market on the Internet as their customers are local and their wares are (mostly) commodities. There aren't many people that scour the web for the cheapest prices before buying a loaf of bread! We just go to the nearest shop.

Secondly, there are businesses that already have a full order book, cannot take on any more work and do not plan on expanding. Of course they are few and far beween, but I know of at least one business that fits this description.

For most businesses, though, a website is a cost-effective markeing tool that both saves and makes money.

I will be covering the benefits of owning a website in a new blog post very soon.
