As a website designer, I often say that many small businesses in Nuneaton could benefit from a professionally-designed website.

This was a question that a Nuneaton business owner and friend recently asked me. Being a website designer, my first reaction was to say "Yes, of course", but after taking a few moments of thought I was able to think of a couple examples where a website would not be a cost-effecive solution.

I read a very interesting question on Yahoo! Answers yesterday about search engine optimisation. A guy wanted to know if his domain name should have hyphens separating the words (where there would be spaces) or not. For example, we-are-shoredutton.com or weareshoredutton.com.

After some thought, this was my answer to him:

Because I spend a lot of time sat in front of my computer surfing the web, I thought it would be interesting to compile a list the five most useful websites in Nuneaton. Website design was not considered (perhaps that's a list for another day) with merit focussed purely on the content. It turned out to be harder than I thought it would be but eventually I settled on these:

I'm a big fan of cloud computing, especially Google Apps. By using SaaS, I can access my documents and applications (letters, spreadsheets, emails etc.) from any computer in the World, I don't have to concern myself with updating, upgrading or patching software and can easily share my work with my collaborators.

In these pages, I'll try to convey a little bit of my knowledge about website design, development and marketing as well as sharing a few of the experiences I have whilst running my own website design business. Primarily, I think my audience will be my clients and partners, however I hope to write a few things that will be of benefit to website designers and website owners around the globe.

But before the useful stuff, I thought I'd begin by telling you a little about myself.
